Co-designing a Wellbeing Programme for Young Women to Raise Literacy of Social Media Marketing
Our team at Edinburgh Napier aim to work in collaboration with the social charity Young Women’s Movement, local schools, and young girls themselves to develop a workshop blueprint that provides education and awareness of social media marketing and the portrayal of body image within social media marketing. Currently, marketing on social media has a significant role to play in young girls’ experience with social media, which is linked to depression, anxiety, eating disorders, bullying, and addiction. To date, efforts to improve these associations have enforced small incremental changes upon social media platforms. However, our project aims to build an educational and empowering workshop that supports young girls and their peers to use social media in a positive manner. Our aim is for this workshop to be delivered in all schools across the UK.
