An innovative 'passive-solar' timber drying kiln
The UK construction industry is a large consumer of high-quality softwood timber, a majority of which is imported (UK being the 3rd largest importer in a global context). In the UK, most forests are destructively cleared, and converted into lowvalue products (e.g. pallets, potato boxes, fence posts) with short lifespans, for short-term gain. This approach consumes valuable natural resources, impacts the health/well-being of people and the planet, does not retain carbon long-term and fails to address global social, economic and environmental needs.

This project aims to deliver PoC testing of the kiln against modelled predictions to produce construction-grade timber to regulatory standards.

The project combines significant economic impact and ROI for the UK economy with excellent value for money. Comprehensive information on the team, risks, costs and work packages is included.
