The design of the IRISS parallel database machine
  The decision support potential of large commercial relational databases is limited by the vast amounts of computing power required to perform complex queries on large datasets. Massively parallel processing offers the potential to open up new possibilities in on-line decision support by increasing by orders of magnitude the amount of power brought to bear on the problem. The authors believe, however, that ports of conventional RDBMS code onto parallel platforms are not capable of exploiting the true potential of such hardware.

The IRISS parallel database machine is based upon a software architecture which has been designed from first principles to be optimum for distributed memory massively parallel hardware architectures. The design of the system is outlined in the poster.
