An evaluation of a pilot nurse led initiative for providing IV therapy for adults with cellulitis of the lower limb in the community.
The purpose of this pilot is to evaluate a local nurse led intervention which aims to support patients with cellulitis undergoing IV therapy in their own homes. This evaluation of a pilot intervention fits with the care and support of people in community by enabling patients to complete their essential IV therapy at home with nursing support while under the indirect supervision of their medical consultant. This has added benefits in relation to patient satisfaction, reducing family or'informal'carer burden, maximising community practice provision, promoting treatment adherence and more effective use of health care resources. The outcomes from the evaluation may also provide an indication of whether the use of IV therapy at home could be considered for management of other long term conditions.
